Montira’s Thai Cuisine Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Super fast and fresh. Salad rolls are small which is nice so it won't fill you before the entree. I got the mango paradise, which was too much mango. That's my fault though, it is called paradise. The freshness and quality makes me want to return for some other dishes.

We were driving through. The food was ok. We had little to no service. I bet if you lived in The Dalles this place would seem amazing as it is probably the only Thai place in town. It's ok. I'd go back.

I live in an area with a ton of Thai restaurants but was really blown away by Montira's while visiting The Dalles. Definitely recommend the pumpkin curry, coconut ice cream and tapioca (which is served warm and slightly salty :)

Love or hate, I'm on the love side of things... If I lived in the Dalles and this was the only Thai restaurant around it would probably be five stars based on location, but I vascillated and decided to review it at urban standards. It's really good. My girlfriend and I found it after we discovered the Al Stewart concert in Stevens (yes, I listen to Al Stewart--is anyone who follows my reviews really surprised by now? I'm terrifingly pretentious. Or maybe precious...) was sold out. Alas, but they never get back to me when I asked if we could buy tickets through their e-mail server. So off we went, driving through the Gorge to make up the difference. We arrived at Montira's 16 minutes before closing, and they greeted us as if they didn't care at all.... Serving us very promptly, both of us got the peanut curry, which proved to be incredible. Most impressively, black rice--which I've never seen at a restaurant in the US before. The curry itself is exceptionally rich, but at the average level of heat is also still nicely hot, with the quantity of coconut milk gone into its production making it a perfectly enjoyable combination. The chicken was of good quality and softly cooked and I found myself completely savouring every bite. I asked for coffee--totally forgot about tea--and ended up liking it enough to drink it black, which means they have some really good drip coffee, odd for an Asian place and making it so much the better. They also used black rice in the jasmine rice pudding, which we ordered to go out of sake of their closing efforts, and equally proved superb. Service was endlessly politely done, the owner wishing to lock up his cash drawer as soon as he could but we were paying by car so it didn't matter. The black rice was completely delicious in both cases... And, cutely as we left, I saw that who I presume to be the wife of the owner--this place is family run--was using the leftover water from the water ptichers on the tables to water the plants. That kind of conservation is just so perfectly appropriate and smart and I loved seeing it. Nice vibes to the place, in short. The only complaints I'd have is that the amount of rice is small relative to the amount of curry, so you run out. There should be half again as much, ideally, though the top crust of black rice has to be pricy, still, the food is reasonable but priced enough it would be a nice and reasonable addition. The second complaint--I did say two--was the fact they didn't ask us how hot we wanted the food. They prepared it generically since I forgot to specify, which was hot enough to be pleasant but I could have kicked it up a bit with my own spicehound preferences. Other than that, everything came together perfectly, and it's especially nice that the interior was clear, well-lit, very nicely done, everything looked professional, there were linens on the table and linen napkins.... In short, it completely lacked all of the usual dingyness of family-owned asian restuarants in small towns I'm so painfully familiar with, which is a real accomplishment as far as I can tell. Beyond that, they played actual popular Thai music in the restaurant rather than some canned generic Asian music or western music, which was another touch to be deeply appreciated.

Fantastic Thai food. Best in the state possibly. Great flavors. Our curry was wonderfully spicy. Pad Thai was delicious. We are from Portland originally and now live in The Dalles. Love this place!

This place is yummy! We tried this place when we came up to scope out the area before moving to The Dalles and have gone on two or three more occasions, each time we had a good experience. The service has varied, but the food is always good. We've had the requisite selections that help to gauge a place against another: Tom Yum Goong Soup, Pad Thai, and a Green Curry. They offer some items that are more unique but still traditional in flavors such as the Peanut Curry (Delicious!) We like hot curry, and it had a good bite underlying the sweetness which made it very nicely rounded out. They do not offer heat levels to choose from so you have to read the descriptions. That's probably the only drawback sometimes you just want something that has a lot of bite, but they seem like they would be accommodating if you requested it hotter... I'll have to check on that next time!

I was looking forward to Thai food in The Dalles, OR. This place left me disappointed. I ordered Pad Thai noodles with spice, and I received a tasteless plate of noodles. The beef salad had too many onions, not enough greens, and overdone beef. Our waitress was pleasant, but to achieve that state was an effort for her. I think one of the owners was the cashier that night, and when she asked how everything was, I politely told her. I am sure she didn't like being told the food was sub-par, but she listened and promised the staff would do better again. I hope so and I may try them again, but they are very fortunate The Dalles populace lacks a palate that knows real Thai food.

If you like Thai food do not go.! The service was so slow I had to go to the kitchen entrance to get the waiter to give me the check. The phad Thai had n flavor and no spice.

Tasty grub in The Dalles and a nice break from mediocre burger joints. Great flavors and a decent price. Speedy, pleasant service to boot! And when you ask for it spicy, they give it to you at just the right amount. Spicy, but not inedible.

How is this place not packed all the time??!! Oh yeah, it's in The Dalles where a good deal of the populace frequent only fast food restaurants. It's really too bad because Montira's Thai Cuisine is some of the best Thai food I have ever had. I went for lunch and the portions were enormous, the ingredients fresh, the spices hot like I like them, and the service was spot on. The waitress even dealt with our table of 3 annoying and loud young kids with absolute grace. Give it a try- you will really enjoy the food.

This place was always good but since their introduction with a new chef it has really stepped it up! Very nice and grateful staff and really a breath of fresh air to our little community. Every dish on the menu is worth trying, I personally recommend the Pad Prik King or the Pad Ka Prow. They have all the traditional favorites and I feel you will not leave disappointed or hungry!

I am very happy to write a review for this restaurant. In May - I moved to The Dalles from Portland. I love well-made and flavourful food from different cultures, and I was afraid that The Dalles would disappoint in this arena. Thank goodness for Montira's! It is one of the few places in The Dalles that I can count on for: fresh food, delicious spices, and polite restaurant staff.

I don't get out to eat much but this place was on my radar after everyone locally gave it good reviews. I ordered a noodle dish and it was very delicious. The only down is that it had no spice. I could be bias because after living in India, I like my food with a bit of a kick. So I next time I think I will make sure the order is not mild.

  • Alicia S.

I love this restaurant. Real authentic Thai cuisine. Every time we go to the Dalles we eat there. So far I have tried the Tom Yum soup and all the noodle dishes except for the Pad Thai. Every dish has been excellent. I'll remember to take some pictures next time.

We went in the mid-afternoon. I don't know who was in charge, but the wait-staff said it was the chef. First time my pad see ew came, it was cold. The second time, it was luke-warm. I asked if they could just put it in the microwave, at that point, and I was told the chef wouldn't do that. The 3rd time it was hot. My husband's salad was horrible, and had no dressing on it. The lemonade they're so proud to say they make themselves was not sweet enough and didn't have enough lemon in it--that is, it had too much water. They "fixed" it once and it was still horrible but my husband didn't want to complain again. When asked if I wanted another glass of wine, I said I would, if they didn't charge me for all the trouble we had been through to get our orders right. They all had a good laugh at the idea. I love Thai food and I used to get good noodles here, but we're definitely never going again. The service and attitude were horrible and there was no impression that they were sorry--much more got the sense that they thought we were being "difficult."

Recently we experienced Jim and Melissa's Excellent Pacific Northwest Adventure....While visiting my cousin Pam in Woodland (30 min. from Portland) we decided to go to the Columbia Gorge...Almost had lunch at the restaurant at Multnomah Falls (it has been praised by Rachael Ray), but we weren't quite hungry yet... .Kept traveling south toward The Dalles....Roamed around the town, stunned that there wasn't ANYTHING OPEN ! Were we in the Twilight Zone? Hunger set in and we decided to 'try' a Thai restaurant...Walking to our seats I noticed several photos in the front of the restaurant of the Royal Family of Thailand....Don't know why, but my experience is if there are Thai Royal Family photos, the food is always great ! WOW ! absolutely incredible....Lee W. said 'best in the state possibly'...I say the BEST THAI FOOD ON THE PLANET ! We're in SoCal and have many choices of Thai cuisine----Lots are good, but not on the level as Montira's !!! The restaurant is attractive and quite clean...The staff is very sweet and helpful... Jim and I love 'different' and that includes beverages....I had a delicous young coconut drink w/ nice chunks of fresh coconut....Jim had a wonderful Thai ice tea....And the glasses were too fabulous ! Like very tall 'modern' pilsner glasses.... Pam ordered the Pumpkin Curry (be still my heart !) and loved it--she is not a vegetarian (the dish is) and did not miss the meat....I ordered the Coconut Vegetables---YUM...Both came w/ white rice w/ Jasmine black rice on top of it !!!!! Mine was a circle w/ a ole cut out in the center, Pam's was a heart..Jim completely enjoyed the Nam Tok Beef salad... the food was so incredible, we were almost delirious w/ taste bud orgasms.....How is it possible that the best Thai Food in the World is in The Dalles in Or ? If I had sinful amounts of money, I would fly to Or at least once or twice a month JUST to DINE at MONTIRA"S.... I am going to write the restaurant and beg for the Pumpkin Curry Recipe and the Coconut Vegetables recipe... Don't know how the most amazing Thai food is in an obscure location----but soooooooooooo grateful that we found it and soooooooo blessed that we had the opportunity to experience.... Will find a way to return to Or. to go back to Montira's !!!

Good food and great presentation! In PDX it would get a 4, but its by far the best restaurant in The Dalles.

  • Scott S.

Yuck. Soy sauce heaven. Thai food is supposed to be excellent. But I have eaten here 3 TIMES, hoping each time that they would be better. They have not gotten any better. Cheap and blah-tasting food. This place is no better than the typical back-water Chinese-American restaurants you find in small towns.

  • Jennifer G.

This place was great. We showed up for lunch with five adults and four kids; they seated us away from the other diners (which the other diners probably appreciated) and served us quickly. The food was nicely presented, delicious and reasonably priced, and the servers were friendly. I liked how they combined black and white rice in the side dishes. We all agreed we would definitely come back.

  • Scott S.

Absolutely Fantastic! This was a pleasant surprise. I've had Thai food all over (even in Thailand) and I can honestly say this is some of the best I've had.

    (5)
  • Jim B.

Let me start by saying this is the best Thai food in The Dalles. But, it's not the best Thai food on the planet as some reviewers state. And the service was slow both times i've been there. I travel to town on business frequently. The black rice pudding was excellent!

Great Thai food. Fast, friendly service. Certainly unexpected in the Dalles. Easily accessed from the freeway.

As a former resident of The Dalles, we were really looking forward to this restaurant. The most ethnic food we have around here is Mexican (which I can get authentic Mexican from my grandma!) or Chinese. After the Lighthouse Japanese restaurant closed, The Dalles had nothing to offer in good ethnic dining. When we heard about the Thai place, we were ecstatic! Like Scott S., I've eaten here a few times, hoping it would get better. Maybe I've just been spoiled with better Thai food. The only thing I do like about Montira's is the fresh salad rolls and even in that category, I've had better. The service is always great and it's always clean, but the food never seems to do anything for me. Pad Thai is usually my favorite, but theirs doesn't live up to what I usually get at Thai Derm in Beaverton. The yellow curry was hardly spicy and the peanut sauce salad was WAY too rich. Although my sister loves the place and constantly invites me back with her, I can't work up the hunger for it and it makes me sad because I do love Thai food. I'd rather drive the 20 minutes to Hood River to the Thai wagon, but he's got weird hours and he's seasonal. But SO worth the wait! Sorry Montira's, I tried!

Awesome awesome awesome. Nothing more to say. Oh yes also very clean place too. Love it and will return MUST HAVE Mango Sticky Rice for dessert when in season.

  • Chris D.

The food here is absolutely top notch. The staff and owners are exceptionally friendly and go above and beyond to ensure you are satisfied. The Pad Thai, Variety Noodle, and Tom Yum are some of my favorite items on the menu. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Thai food.

  • Laurie A.

I'm a downtown Portland girl. So by default, I know my food. At least I like to think I do. I can honestly say the food from here is just as good as any 4 star Thai place you will find in Portland. We often get take out, but eating here is fine as well. I mean the place is nothing fancy..... but aren't the good ones usually a little grimy :-) Here are two things you MUST know if you are going to eat here: 1. They are closed on Mondays. Don't even think about Thai on Mondays because you will just be sad. 2. If the mango sticky rice is in season and you don't order it, you're and idiot. It. Is. The. Tits. Oh I just thought of one more thing you must know...... the angel shrimps! OH MY. Get those. Enjoy!

  • Stephen I.

This place is amazing. We stopped here once before on our way from Walla Walla to Portland and it was great then. This time we were just as pleased. The food presentation is first rate and is matched by the quality and flavor. As an Asian I highly recommend this place!

  • Katy C.

What a find! Traveling thru & will come back this way just for Montira's! Pumpkin curry with chunks of pumpkin & just the right amount of hot spicy. My husband had Cashew chicken. All high quality ingredients. Try the homemade Coconut ice cream...wow! Best part: friendly & efficient staff & owners :-)

  • Charlie M.

Delicious, flavorful, quick, friendly, great little place in The Dalles. I enjoyed the House Special Curry with chicken. But from what I saw other people enjoying, I would say that it looks like this is a place I will return again and again to try the many other things on the menu. Well done!

  • Amanda L.

This was an incredibly rewarding Thai food experience after a long wait for something of the kind. Notable dishes: The Tom Ka Ga was the best I've ever had--if you're a fan of this soup you have to try it here. I've never had peanut sauce that was as creamy and authentic as that served with my spring rolls. The menu, beverage offerings and service were wonderful!

    (5)
  • Jacob V.

This place is really the real! The presentation and the vegetable preparation are excellent! How can you have a cooked tomato that isn't mushy well ask them. The peanut sauce is perfectly balanced. When I visit TD again I will go here again and again and again! You can taste the care that is put into each dish and the knowledge of the food. The only gripe I have is that the menu is toned down somewhat but you can't really blame them it makes the food more approach me for people who aren't very familiar with Thai food. I bet you could request a specific dish not on the menu and they could make it well very well unless if course it's a dish that requires many hours of prep. Next time I go I'm requesting Thai beef salad. This place is a diamond in the rough for sure. Oh you also get a nice view of the Klickitat mountains while you dine.

  • Pierce B.

My dad and I were on a motorcycle trip and stopped in the dalles for the night. We happened to be walking by this place and decided to give it a shot, since we both like Thai food. He may disagree but this is honestly the best Thai food I've ever had. Just amazing. Highly recommended. If you stop in Dalles for food you must come here.

    (5)
  • T C.

Their food is consistently great to excellent - their service is slow unless you order take out (the way to go!) because it's fast and tastes great. They are excellent about changing up orders, subbing brown rice, or removing veggies you don't like. They offer meat, veggie and vegan options (of course). And I agree with other reviews, for urban standards it's a 4, for The Dalles I thank goodness they are here and give them a 5!

    (4)
  • Colin S.

It can be hit and miss with service, and I have once had a meal I did not enjoy (they overcooked their honey duck) but I would eat their every day if I could hands down the best food in town, in my opinion. My wife and I always get the Ring of Fire (seriously they light it on FIRE) and I have been all across the US and have never had wraps to rival their fresh wraps. All of their curries are also amazing as is the variety noodle. The honey duck is usually great too although I had it overcooked once (easy to do with duck) i would order it again.

    (5)
  • Chris G.

Absolutely excellent! Was putting off going for a long time because usually you might think Thai food=spicy, however, I was incredibly surprised! The restaurant was very clean. There was a lot of options to eat. I decided to settle on the variety noodle to start easy for my first trip. Presentation was beautiful. I didn't even want to start eating to mess up the look of it. Though i was pleasantly surprised. Cost seemed a little high but was worth it for the quality of food you get. I will very much be going back...sooner rather than later. Update--went here with my wife for our 10 year anniversary about 2 weeks later, and the food was still really good, however, it took us almost 2 hours from time in the door to walking out the door...and they weren't even busy (My first trip was about 45 minutes in and out). Took about 25 minutes for anyone to even come and ask about drinks and take our order. Removed a star for that.

    (4)
  • Ander G.

The food had a nice presentation. The food is very good, but the hot seemed pretty mild for a Thai food restaurant!

    (4)
  • Angela H.

When my husband is working out of town we eat here once a week! We have consistently had fresh, flavorful food here, and branched out to order different things than our usual. The chicken pad thai didn't have the usual garnish with peanut, cilantro, lime and a large shrimp on top like the description says but other than that we have never been disappointed, the food is so wonderful we have never gotten tired of eating here. Some of our favorites: Drunken noodle, tom kha soup, pad thai, spicy fried rice, fresh wraps & spring rolls, lovely ginger. Even though the portions are not huge we usually manage to have leftovers and always leave satisfied. Our waitress is awesome!

    (5)
  • Aimee D.

Wow! We stopped here for dinner on our road trip to Utah and it was amazing. I highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area. They advertise as healthy Thai food and it's true. Everything is fresh and nothing was oily. I got the Avocado Mango Salad (GET IT) they could have put more shrimp on it but I killed that salad. The hubby got Pad Thai and it was superb. Coming from Portland this place is definitely comparable. Plus if you have kiddos they treat them wonderfully. They gave my son his apple juice in a very fancy glass! I would have given them five stars but the service is very slow. Nice but very slow.

    (4)
  • Alex Y.

Who would have thought you could find bomb Thai food in the Dalles? I was passing through on my way home to Portland from Boise, and my friends recommended I stop here. I ordered the Angel Shrimp rolls and the Roasted Duck Curry. All the food was flavorful and delicious. Very reasonably priced as well. The Thai coffee was a bit too creamy for me, but I could have simply asked for less cream. I'll be stopping by next time I pass through the Dalles!

  • Neal C.

Yelp failed us on this one. The two servers were terrible (two teenagers that need a schooling in customer service), they were out of many items, they forgot to bring all the dishes we ordered, and apparently they only serve curry with forks. To top everything off, the curry we did order was terrible. Keep driving if heading in from the east, Hood River is just down the road and has better food options.

Me and my wife had dinner here my plate came my wife's did not her meal came a half hour later and they did not even say sorry I will not return to this place again I had a very bad experience here. I felt so bad for my wife.

Very good thai food! It's a great place to stop and I was very surprised to find such good Thai food all the way out there. Friendly service too although a little slow sometimes, but I didn't care much while devouring my vege pad se ew made proper. The curries were great too.

    (4)
  • Juergen B.

The food did not taste particularly fresh and was only Luke warm when served. Tasted like last night's left overs reheated in a microwave: complete with hot and cold spots.

  • Raja S.

We had: Tom Yum soup: really good (nice flavor): much better than most other Thai restaurants that I had. Chicken Fried Rice (stir fried): Really good (both myself and my wife liked it). Pad Thai: Just okay. Good service. Nice views from the restaurant.

    (4)
  • Chris H.

Great find for Thai food! Driving I-84 and hoping to avoid chain burger joints, I called ahead for Pad Thai to go. I'm usually more adventurous with my menu selection, but Pad Thai seemed safe and easier to eat in the car than a soupy curry. A mix of chicken, shrimp tofu , seasoned perfectly with the right amount of sauce. Took less time than a fast food drive thru, and SO much better! Ican't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Among the best thai food we ever had. They can make certain items vegan. We tried phad thai and yellow curry and both of them were very nice.

Luncheon en route to Salem. My boyfriend and I both love Thai, and there isn't much Thai in Eastern Oregon. So when this place popped up as lunch time was approaching - it was an easy choice. Unfortunately, this place failed to impress. We started with the Thai iced tea - the only good thing in our order. For an appetizer, we ordered the pastry-like meat filled turnovers. For, what, $8? We got exactly 2 pastries. Not saying they were bad, but jeez - at least give us 4 or 6 for that price. My lunch order of Red curry was small, and had probably about 2 ounces of beef. The rest of veggies and not even all that much soup. My boyfriend's stir fry was equally underwhelming. Both were rather expensive for lunch dishes in our opinion. Sorry I have to go against the locals with primarily good reviews of Montira's, but coming from the big cities where proper Thai can be found, this place just doesn't stand up.

  • Hannah H.

Best thai in the world. I've always had the pad Thai and it never disappoints. Ask for medium spicy.

    (5)
  • Chloe V.

The service is horrible! For a huge restaurant with barely any customers why does it take 15 minutes for my order to be taken? And then when I wave for a waiter, I am told that they'll be right with me.... Uhh been waiting for a long time.... The customer service is so bad and slow they probably wouldn't noticed if you left without paying because they're too busy in the back doing whatever. Basically I should HAVE dined and dashed. And they wouldn't even noticed.

Absolutely amazing. The pumpkin curry is out of this world. We go out of our way to stop here every time we drive I 84.

Keep your mind open, though this place looks a bit like it was opened in an old Denny's it certainly rivals any Thai I've had. Great portion size (large) and piping hot food always make me happy but it was definitely the clarity of the food that I stood out. Often with asian food you end up with "something OK covered in sauce." Here the flavors of the meat and veggies shown through and were accented by the spices not drowned by them. The Pad Thai was awesome and the basil chicken I had was great as well. Friendly smiling staff also make for a great meal here on the edge of the Columbia river. You can't go wrong here

    (4)
  • Cameron W.

If you love Thai food this isn't your spot. We had Jungle Curry which was more like very watery vegetable soup with large pieces of veggies but not a trace of curry flavor. The Pad Ha-prow was more tasty, with a watery sauce, but not anything we'd get again. The poor waitress was slammed so we can't in fairness complain about the service. The place is clean enough and the staff is very pleasant.

Amazing service & excellent food. It is A DON'T MISS if you're traveling through town like us! Now I'm just sad that I live so far from here!

In a town where there looked to be very few vegetarian and gluten friendly options, this restaurant was a shining light of saviorness. Night one; I just stopped by to pick up an order of Mango Stick Rice for a snack at my hotel. Day two, I was back for a long leisurely lunch. I loved my vegetarian, tofu filled Tom Kha soup, which was quite mild, and very delicious. For my meal, I enjoyed the Pumpkin Curry -- it was also good, but quite a bit spicier than I had anticipated. Despite the heat, I ate as much as I could, and took the rest home for later (tasted even better then). The staff is nice, and the service on point. They have a variety filled menu, and everything I've had is quite tasty. I will say things seem a little pricey, but I'm guessing that prices in OR are increased a little due to the lack of tax. All in all, probably the best restaurant in the Dalles, and highly recommended.

The pad thai is absolutely delish! Best I have ever had.

Friendly owner and staff, very quick and delicious food! No MSG at all here and the owner will make your food gluten-free if you ask. Glad we decided to stop here on our way through town.

I've always been very happy with the food here. The prices might surprise you if you're from Portland or elsewhere, I feel everything should be a couple of bucks less than it is, but out here, I'm happy to pay for it, to be honest! There are few restaurants in The Dalles that I would ever recommend and this is one of them! (I will say, if you want a 2nd beer, you'll have to be sure to ask for it, they're not really pro-active about that).

    (4)
  • Jen H.

OMG this place is amazing. "Yummy" doesn't even begin to describe the food here. Thank goodness we live less than two hours away. The food is fresh, full of flavor and not over cooked or over seasoned. And it's beautifully presented as well. The house special curry is absolutely to die for, and the homemade peanut sauce is incredible. This is well worth a 2 hour road trip just to eat here!

Warning ******* Warning****** This place is so good you will be coming back over and over again......... You have been warned. I love that soup they serve in the winter season
